Last Updated on by ICT Byte

The number of fixed broadband internet users in Nepal has crossed 3.1 million, as per the latest data published by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). By the end of Chaitra 2081, the total number of fixed internet subscribers reached 31,30,655.

Back in Shrawan end of the same fiscal year 2081/82, the total stood at 29,03,270 — showing an increase of 2,27,385 users in a span of nine months. Private internet service providers (ISPs) have played a major role in this expansion.

WorldLink Communications Limited has emerged as the leading ISP in customer acquisition. From 9,31,099 users in Shrawan, it increased its total to 10,00,931 by Chaitra, marking a growth of 69,832 users. WorldLink is the only provider in the country to cross the 10 lakh (1 million) subscriber milestone.

Websurfer Nepal Communication Systems follows next in terms of growth, adding 48,107 users in the nine-month period, reaching a total of 1,86,667 users. The highest growth for Websurfer was seen during Bhadra and Mangsir.

Other major contributors:

  • Vianet: 35,884 new users
  • WiFi Nepal: 30,791 new users (doubling its user base)
  • Dish Media (DishHome): 22,569 new users (with the highest increase in Magh)

Despite being the second-largest service provider, Nepal Telecom showed very limited growth, adding only 1,934 users during the period.

Some ISPs saw a decline in user base:

  • Aeronet: lost 4,364 users
  • Connect Nepal: lost 2,322 users
  • Fiber World: lost 1,080 users

Most of the user losses were seen among smaller service providers.
