Sunaina Ghimire Pandey has been elected as the President of the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) Federation without opposition, making history as the organization’s first woman to hold the top post.
The announcement came after the nomination process on Wednesday, where Pandey was the only candidate for the position, according to CAN Federation General Secretary Chiranjibi Adhikari.
Pandey’s unopposed election coincides with the upcoming 15th General Convention and 31st Annual General Assembly of CAN Federation, scheduled to take place on December 28. With a career spanning more than 25 years in the IT industry, Pandey has served in various leadership roles within the organization, including as Secretary, General Secretary, and Vice President.
In the 2019 elections, Pandey ran for the presidency but was defeated by Navaraj Kunwar. Her team member Ranjit Poddar was elected President at the time and later secured re-election unopposed in 2022. Poddar will officially hand over leadership to Pandey at the convention next week.
While the presidential position was finalized without competition, elections will be held for other roles within the executive committee. The central committee consists of 43 members, including elected representatives, who will select office-bearers from among themselves.
Currently serving as the Managing Director of General Technology, Pandey is committed to driving innovation and strengthening Nepal’s ICT sector during her tenure as President.
