Women Leaders in Technology (WLiT) is a non-governmental organization that started in 2015. WLiT Fellowship program is conducted every year.
They provide technical, professional, and leadership development for young women in Nepal with a vision to empower them to become innovators and leaders. Their main aim is to encourage and increase female involvement in technical fields and help them to achieve key leadership positions. To accomplish their goal, they provide career-oriented, technical, professional, and leadership development training.

Every year they offer a nine months fellowship with leadership skills development training along with technical skills for passionate female tech students in the university. So far, they have provided fellowships to 80 female students. They have been working on a hackathon, study, and research along with the fellowship program.

WLiT Fellowship 2020-2021
WLiT will be providing fellowship to 15 female students this year. Previously, fellowships were provided to the students from Kathmandu and Pokhara. This year, the training will be provided virtually, so the applications can be submitted from across the country.
While taking the fellowship, you will have to go to the community school and teach what you have learned to 20 to 30 students. In addition, a two to three months internship will be arranged in a reputed IT company during the internship period, the organization said.
As the coronavirus pandemic is still going on, WLiT has planned to conduct the fellowship mostly online this year. They are also providing full/ partial scholarships for the students who need it.
As we know that women’s participation in technology is relatively low. So, WLiT has been established with the belief that women’s participation can be increased in the future and role model women can be prepared in this field.
Registration Fee for the WLiT Fellowship
A fee of Rs 3,500 has been set for the fellowship. The organization has stated that the general fee of commitment has been provided and not as the cost of the training program. The organization will give priority to ethnic and class participation.
Time period and priority for the WLiT Fellowship
The fellowship starts with a boot camp accompanied by leadership courses and then follows into a nine-month-long fellowship program. The time period for the boot camp is two weeks.
The time period for Bootcamp is from Oct 28 – Nov 12 with Mondays off. There will be 2 hours of the live sessions and 2-5 hours of pre-reading/ assignment every day. WLiT will be giving priority to the students in 2nd or 3rd year of their undergraduate studies and the students from public schools/ colleges.

The training course provided under the fellowship has been prepared by the technical team of WLIT. Training on leadership and design thinking has been arranged by the partner companies of the organization.
“Women cannot reach leadership just by learning skills,” says Joshi, the program director.
Only when there is a woman at the leadership level of the company can there be a women-friendly environment. Therefore, we have started working in the field of leadership development along with skill development.
WLiT has been mobilizing support from local organizations and companies, including the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, as a social responsibility. In addition, the organization has the support of the Young Feminist Fund (Frida).

Every year, WLiT fellows get placed in a tech company for a short term internship. Last year, they were supported by SochWare, YoungInnovations, Innovate Tech, Reduct, The Crazy Studio, Leapfrog Technology Inc., Pro-Mech Minds & Engineering Services Pvt.Ltd., etc.
