Mobile Data Subscribers Nepal: Nepal Telecom’s Rapid Growth

Nepal Telecom has seen a remarkable surge in mobile data subscribers in Nepal, adding nearly 3 million new users in just four months. According to the latest report from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the state-owned telecom giant gained 2,997,381 new data customers between October and February, solidifying its position as a leading provider of mobile internet services.

Growth in Mobile Data Subscribers in Nepal

Nepal Telecom’s rapid expansion can be attributed to its increasing 4G adoption, with 1,852,050 new users joining its 4G network and 545,331 opting for 3G services. Notably, in the last two months alone, the company has grown its data user base by 117,259, further demonstrating the rising demand for mobile internet in Nepal.

Ncell’s Decline in Mobile Data Subscribers

While Nepal Telecom continues to expand, private telecom operator Ncell has been witnessing a decline in its data subscriber base. Over the past two months, Ncell lost 202,929 mobile data subscribers. As per the NTA report, Ncell’s total data subscribers, which stood at 12,163,840 in December, dropped to 11,960,911 by February.

The overall decline in Ncell’s mobile data users over the last four months amounts to 25,947, indicating challenges in maintaining its customer base in Nepal’s competitive telecom industry.

Drop in Ncell’s Mobile Customer Base

In addition to losing mobile data subscribers, Ncell is also seeing a consistent drop in its overall mobile customer base. The latest report reveals that in January alone, the company lost approximately 184,015 subscribers.

By the end of December, Ncell had 14,737,205 mobile users, but by January, this number had decreased to 14,553,190. On the other hand, Nepal Telecom added 93,142 new users in the same period, bringing its total mobile subscribers to 14,901,667.

Nepal Telecom Strengthens Market Leadership in Mobile Data Services

Over the past four months, Nepal Telecom has increased its mobile subscriber base by 556,146, while Ncell has lost 353,493 customers. As of now, Nepal Telecom holds 51.27% of Nepal’s mobile market, while Ncell’s share has shrunk to 48.73%.

With Nepal Telecom’s continued growth in mobile data subscribers in Nepal, the company is strengthening its dominance in the industry. As mobile internet demand rises, the competition between these telecom providers will shape the future of digital connectivity in Nepal.
