Google announced that it is rolling out a new core update, the May 2020 core update. This is the second Google Core update of the 2020 year, first one was in the month of January.
Google has released a core algorithm to update this very frequently. This time the announcement says;
“Later today, we are releasing a broad core algorithm update, as we do several times per year. It is called the May 2020 Core Update. Our guidance about such updates remains as we’ve covered before”
After this announcement, Google said that it will take about two weeks to fully roll out the new core update.
The purpose of Core Updates
These broad core updates are designed to produce widely noticeable effects search engines results in all countries in all languages of the world.
Different sites will inevitably notice drops or gains in search rankings when this kind of new update rolls out.
These changes in search rankings are generally a reflection of content relevancy and how it is bad or good.
It means that if the site has gained relevancy and good content from the last update it will be moved higher otherwise down the rankings.
With this being the first update after the global pandemic, the May core update has the potential to be especially volatile in nature to more number of websites.
What to do if you are hit?
Google has given advice on what to consider if you are negatively impacted by the update. There are no specific actions to take to recover or you not need to worry about the sites. But you can try improving your sites with relevant content and improve if better until the next update. Google also offered lists of questions to consider if your site is hit by a core update.
