The District Administration Office in Kathmandu and Lalitpur have started distributing National Identity Cards to citizens in the area. The National Identity Card and Registration Department provided 8,000 cards to both offices in the first phase of distribution, which is being carried out by mobile teams in 43 districts, with an ongoing campaign in 15 additional districts.
Citizens who have registered their personal and biological details at the registration stations of the District Administration Office can receive their cards at the same location. However, the distribution process is facing challenges due to a lack of additional manpower and infrastructure, and it is unclear when all cards will be distributed. The national identity card number is required for electronic passports and can be registered through any of the 77 district administration offices, although the actual card may not be given immediately.
