The Computer Association Nepal (CAN) has announced the opening of applications for the ‘National ICT Scholarship-2081.’ The scholarship program, which has been supporting technical education for the past seven years, was formally inaugurated by Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Pirthivi Subba Gurung.
Minister Gurung expressed confidence that the scholarship program will equip students with the skills needed to succeed in the digital age and contribute to positioning Nepal as a global leader in the information technology sector.
In collaboration with the Lord Buddha Education Foundation located in Maitidevi, Kathmandu, CAN is running this scholarship program targeting talented and economically disadvantaged students across Nepal. CAN Federation President Sunaina Ghimire Pandey shared that this year, 49 students will receive partial or full scholarships.
The ‘National ICT Scholarship’ aims to provide opportunities for underprivileged students from rural areas to build careers in the information technology field, President Pandey explained.
Engineer Pankaj Jalan, Chairman of the Lord Buddha Education Foundation, stated that to ensure equal opportunities for students from all seven provinces, one student from each province will receive a full scholarship, while 42 others will be awarded partial scholarships. Additionally, under the ‘Female Merit ICT Scholarship,’ 28 female students (four from each province) will receive scholarships, and under the ‘ICT Merit Scholarship,’ 21 students (three from each province) will be awarded scholarships.
Ranjan Podar, Scholarship Coordinator and outgoing President of CAN, highlighted that the program emphasizes practical skill development through industry collaboration.
As per the agreement between CAN and the Lord Buddha Education Foundation, the 49 selected students will receive scholarships totaling NPR 2 crore 13 lakh 1 thousand. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc IT) at the Lord Buddha Education Foundation, affiliated with the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) in Malaysia.
Eligible students must have passed their +2 or equivalent from a government-recognized educational institution and secured at least 50% marks in mathematics in their Class 10 examinations. Applications are now open for qualified candidates.
