In 2018 Pulchowk Campus started the Aerospace engineering program under the Department of Mechanical Engineering with the intakes starting in August of that year. The program covers all the essential courses of the aeronautical streams, with further elective courses available for space engineering- including propulsion systems, aerothermodynamics, navigation and communication systems, etc. Instead of ‘Aeronautical Engineering’, following the current conventions in the field, the program was named ‘Aerospace Engineering’. Pulchowk Campus is only the educational institute that provides Aerospace education. Thus, which makes TU the first university to have aerospace engineering in its curriculum.
The department has already established aerospace laboratories, including air-frame, a subsonic wind-tunnel facility, avionics and gas-turbine engine components laboratory, and a high-performance computing workstation facility. In addition, the department is establishing more new laboratories for teaching and research in the coming years.
The total time period of the Aerospace engineering in TU is 4 years and only 48 seats are available. Previously, Nepali students were compelled to travel to foreign countries like China, the Philippine for the aerospace engineering course, and at a highly expensive cost. So, keeping this mind and thinking about future TU has stepped forward to provide the same course here in-home country thus providing the needed education and skills for aerospace within Nepal.
