About KU HackFest

KU HackFest is an annual hackathon organized by Kathmandu University Computer Club (KUCC), established in 1997 at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. Over the years, KU HackFest has grown into one of Nepal’s most recognized student-led hackathons, welcoming participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Each edition reflects rapid digital advancements and introduces participants to emerging technologies such as AI/ML, IoT, Blockchain, AR/VR, and Open Innovation. The core vision of KU HackFest is to foster a culture of technological innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving among students and young professionals.

Objectives Of Kathmandu University HackFest 2025

KU HackFest 2025 is designed with the following inclusive objectives:

  • Encourage creative thinking and real-world problem solving
  • Provide hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies
  • Develop teamwork, leadership, and project development skills
  • Connect participants with mentors, industry experts, and collaborators
  • Promote Nepal’s growing tech and startup ecosystem.

Event Structure & Details

1. Registration & Team Formation

Participants must register in teams of 2 to 4 members. Individuals without teams can participate in additional activities such as Ideathon, Career Fair, and Project Exhibitions.

2. Opening Ceremony

The event begins with a formal inauguration featuring guest speakers, industry mentors, alumni, and faculty members.

3. Hackathon Duration

KU HackFest 2025 features a continuous 48-hour hackathon, where teams build innovative prototypes using tools and technologies of their choice.

4. Project Submission & Demo

Teams submit their final prototypes followed by a live project presentation and demonstration before a panel of judges.

5. Judging & Awards

Projects are evaluated based on:

  • Innovation and originality
  • Problem relevance and impact
  • Presentation quality
  • User experience

Top teams will receive certificates, prizes, medals, mentorship opportunities, and potential project incubation support.

6. Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to students, professionals, and tech enthusiasts from any institution or discipline
  • Participants must follow the hackathon code of conduct and event guidelines

HackFest 2025 Tracks

1. AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning)

Focuses on building intelligent systems that learn from data and make decisions. Participants can develop prediction models, NLP tools, and forecasting systems using technologies like Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.

2. Blockchain

This track emphasizes secure and decentralized applications, including smart contracts, DApps, digital identity systems, and supply-chain solutions, applicable across finance, healthcare, logistics, and governance.

3. IoT (Internet of Things)

Participants work with sensors, microcontrollers, and cloud platforms to build projects like smart homes, environmental monitoring systems, health wearables, and smart campus solutions.

4. AR/VR (Augmented & Virtual Reality)

Focuses on creating immersive experiences such as virtual tours, educational tools, interactive games, medical simulators, and architectural visualizations.

5. Open Innovation

A flexible track allowing participants to build any creative solution addressing real-world problems in areas like health, education, sustainability, accessibility, tourism, and social impact.
