Microsoft to buy TikTok

Microsoft to buy TikTok

Trump recently expressed his plans to ban TikTok in the U.S. After that, many TikTok users of the U.S. were worried about the news and expressed their thoughts on Tiktok itself. TikTok has a lot of users from the U.S. Therefore, this would come as a huge blow for the TikTok users there. So, the news of Microsoft to buy TikTok would come as positive news for them.

On a recent blog by Microsoft, they said that they will continue talks for potential TikTok purchase. The main reason for Trump to ban TikTok is because it is a Chinese-owned app. And, the main worry of this is that TikTok might be providing its data to the Chinese government. Well, that is at least what Trump claims. Although, TikTok has said that they do not provide data to the Chinese government.

So, if Microsoft can succeed in this deal to buy TikTok, then it would solve this threat of information leak to China as Microsoft is a U.S. company. Also, Microsoft has said that it will move quickly to discuss this proposition with ByteDance, the parent company of Tiktok. Therefore, Microsoft has plans to complete this discussion before September 15, 2020. In addition, it will also be in constant discussion with the U.S. government and the President during this process.

Microsoft’s plan after they buy TikTok

Currently, Microsoft is aiming to buy the TikTok services service in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. If the purchase is successful, then, Microsoft would own and operate TikTok in these markets. Microsoft also has plans to invite other American investors to participate on a minority basis in this purchase.

Microsoft has also assured that they will solve President Trump’s worries regarding TikTok. They will make sure to store the user data in the U.S. itself and they will not let it leak outside. In addition, it has also ensured that they will delete the data currently stored in servers outside of the U.S. after they transfer it back. They have also ensured that they would build on the experience TikTok users currently love. In addition, they would be adding world-class security, privacy, and digital safety protections.

This will come as welcome news for the users of TikTok in U.S. TikTok is one of the fun apps that many U.S. citizens use and banning it would not be such a good idea. Instead, if Microsoft succeeds to buy the app, the problem with national security will be solved. And, President Trump might not have to ban the app in the U.S. Hopefully, the deal becomes successful and Tiktok continues to be available in the U.S.
