The Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation), in collaboration with the Female Economic Journalist Association (FEJA), will organize an “AI in Journalism Workshop” on July 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The workshop aims to enhance the understanding and practical application of artificial intelligence in Nepal’s media industry.

The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed by Sharmila Thakuri, President of FEJA; Chiranjibi Adhikari, Acting President of CAN Federation; Simoli Desai, Director of Sunway College Kathmandu, the event’s AI Partner; and Santosh Dhungana, President of the Tech Bloggers Association of Nepal (TBAN).

The initiative seeks to strengthen the digital capabilities of journalists by introducing AI-powered tools and workflows that can improve reporting, content production, audience engagement, and newsroom efficiency.

Speaking on the occasion, FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri said the workshop would provide valuable opportunities for journalists, particularly women journalists, to develop practical AI skills and adapt to the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

CAN Federation Acting President Chiranjibi Adhikari said artificial intelligence is becoming an important component of modern journalism. He noted that the collaboration aims to help media professionals responsibly adopt AI technologies while promoting fact-checking practices and supporting efforts to reduce misinformation, disinformation, and fake news.

The workshop will feature technical sessions led by leading professionals from Nepal’s technology and media sectors. Ritesh Ghimire, Founder and Mentor of TBAN and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Kantipur Neo, will serve as the chief trainer. He will be joined by Prabigya Acharya, AI Research Coordinator at Sunway College Kathmandu, who will conduct sessions focused on practical AI applications and emerging research.

Designed for journalists, editors, content creators, digital marketers, media entrepreneurs, and communication professionals, the two-hour workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of artificial intelligence in journalism, AI-assisted news gathering and production, data journalism, automated content creation, editorial workflow optimization, audience engagement, AI-powered product development, and hands-on training in AI-assisted video editing.

Organizers believe the workshop will contribute to strengthening digital literacy among media professionals while encouraging the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism. As AI continues to transform newsrooms worldwide, the initiative aims to equip Nepali journalists with the knowledge and practical skills needed to adapt to the future of digital media.
