Tribhuvan University Launches Master’s in Information Technology (MIT) Program

Tribhuvan University, Nepal’s oldest and largest university, has announced the opening of the admission process for the Master’s in Information Technology (MIT) program. This program, launched at the post-graduate level from this academic session, is a two-year course (four semesters) and consists of 59 credit hours.

The course will be taught under the semester examination system at the Central Department of Tribhuwan University and 4 affiliate College, said the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CDCSIT) of Tribhuwan University.

MIT has been introduced as a postgraduate level course for the Bachelor’s in Information Technology (BIT) program, which was launched in 2019. The program covers topics that provide students with in-depth knowledge about information technology, including enterprise application, digital marketing, intelligent computing, cyber security, digital pregnancy, IT entrepreneurship, and others.

The first semester of the course comprises of five subjects, each worth three credit hours. The second semester consists of six subjects, including a seminar worth one credit hour. The third semester has five subjects, and there is one term paper of one credit hour. The fourth and final semester comprises of three subjects, two of which are worth three credit hours, and a project or thesis worth eight credits. Additionally, students may opt for an elective course worth three credit hours in the final semester.

To be eligible for admission to the MIT program, students must have studied IT courses like BIT, BSc CSIT, BE Computer, BCA, BIM, etc., at the graduate level. The course is being conducted in the Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CDCSIT) of the University along with four other academic colleges, including Patan Multiple Campus, Amrit Science College (ASCOLL), Padma Kanya (PK) Campus, and Bhaktapur Multiple Campus.

The program’s student seat capacity is 30/30 in the central department and individual colleges, and the course fee will be announced soon.
