Master of Computer Application or MCA is a two-year post-graduate degree (66 Credits hours) programs. The primary(first) year courses are geared toward skills development in computers using different technologies. Similarly, the secondary(second) year is more focused on core courses providing a conceptual framework.
MCA develops a variety of competencies in business and team communication to apply for software design and development, software development cycle and distributed or web-based applications. The main objective of the MCA course is to make students ready for productive careers in the software industry. And academia by providing an impressive environment for teaching and research within the core and emerging areas of the discipline.
Eligibility criteria for MCA colleges:
- Must graduate in computer applications, computer science, or related field. With a minimum of 50% marks obtained at the UG level.
- Should have mathematics as compulsory in class 12.

Is MCA for 2 years?
The answer is Yes. As per the rule of AICTE and because of the less demand for MCA in India. One year is scrapped from MCA. Now you’ll be able to do MCA in two years. But only NIT is running 3 Years of MCA as per this scenario.
Is MCA an engineer?
MCA is usually assumed as equal to B.Tech in IT and CSE field as course structure is the same but B.tech provides more scope and customarily B.tech candidates are preferred over MCA and a better salary is obtainable.
If we compare both these courses then B.Tech may be a better course as it is a technical course but both the courses have their own importance and depend upon the candidate interest. If a student has an interest in the computer then he/she can choose MCA.
