  • 2.KillCMOS- KillCMOS is software that resets computer’s CMOS settings to the factory default settings and also it works with all Cmos.
#Removing CMOS battery

To remove and reset the password another method is to remove the small coin-sized CMOS battery which is used by the motherboard to store all BIOS settings as well as passwords.

Steps:

  1. First, switch off the PC
  2. Then open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery
  3. Wait for about 2030 minutes and then put the battery back
  4. This will reset all BIOS settings as well as the passwords
  5.  Then you’ll need to re-input all settings
#DOS command

As this method requires MS DOS your system should be on.

Steps

  1. Open Command Prompt from Programs menu in your computer
  2. Then type these commands
    • Debug
    • o 70 2E
    • o 71 FF
    • quit
  3. After typing the above commands, restart your system
  4.  It should reset the CMOS settings as well as the BIOS password.

NOTE: The character at first in the above commands is English alphabet “o” and not the number Zero.

# Motherboard jumper

Motherboards contains a jumper that resets the CMOS settings. The location of the jumper varies according to their manufacture. So, you need to look at the manual to find its location. First, turn the PC off before opening the cabinet. After you find the jumper you will see 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either right or left pin. Then you need to remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. If the jumper joins center pin to right pin, then remove it and join the center pin to the left pin. Wait for a few seconds and then remove the jumper and join the center pin to the right pin.

#Using Default BIOS passwords

So, if nothing else has worked so far, you can try using some generic or default passwords set by computer manufacturers.  Click this page that has a list of all the default passwords.
